Robina is a suburb in the City of Gold Coast. In 1980, Robin Loh and Arthur Earle purchased 20 square kilometres of land in the South Gold Coast region. The name Robina was gazetted in 1985, it is a combination of Robin (Loh’s given name) and A (for Arthur Earle).
Robina is considered one of Australia’s most successful planned communities.
Robina is home to State Primary and High Schools, Australian Industry Trade College and Bond University’s main campus.
It also has a library, private hospital, the sixth largest public hospital in Queensland and an amazing health precinct.

Mermaid Waters is a beautiful waterfront residential suburb with many homes constructed along the artificial lakes and canals. Lake Hugh Muntz is a 17-hectare fresh water lake in Mermaid Waters.
Mermaid Waters derives the name from HMS Mermaid an 1817 Cutter ship. This ship brought John Oxley (an Australian surveyor) to the area in 1823. The land where Oxley landed was named by him and the area adjacent to the west was to became Mermaid Waters.
There are three public transport routes that service Mermaid Waters through Broadbeach South bus station. South Robina railway station links Brisbane with the Gold Coast.
Merrimac State High School and Miami State School opened in 1979. In 2008, the Broadbeach Library opened (located in Mermaid Waters).
The Pizzey Park Sports Complex is home to a variety of clubs and sports in the southern Gold Coast region. The Miami Olympic Swimming Pool is adjacent to the Sports Complex.
Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is located nearby and is one of the Gold Coast’s largest shopping centres. In Mermaid Waters there are two small shopping complexes and the Q Centre.
The residential suburb of Miami is located 7 kilometres south of Surfers Paradise and 17 kilometres north of the NSW border.
In the early 1920’s prospective investors were looking at plans for a new real estate development to be called Miami Shore at North Burleigh. Fibro bungalows were constructed on estates and many were rented out to holiday makers. Hotel Miami opened in 1925 was the other option for travellers to stay.
The community constructed the tennis court after the Great Depression and it became part of the Pizzey Park Sporting Complex. Miami State High School was opened in 1963. The Miami Beach Surf Life Saving Club is a popular spot.
Most of the commercial activity of Miami is confined to Christine Avenue around the Gold Coast Highway. The Gold Coast Highway runs from north to south right through Miami, and Pacific Avenue and Christine Avenue connect Miami to the west.
Robina is the closest railway station, approximately 6 km west of Miami. The Gold Coast Airport is 13 km to the south. Surfside Buslines provides two high frequency bus services (Broadbeach to Tweed Heads and to Gold Coast University Hospital.
